My ancestor, Kageyama Sansaku Fusaaki, was a Metsuke for the Tokugawa family at the Osaka Mansion.




A Metsuke was a Bakufu (government official), that investigated and prosecuted corruption by the ruling family elites and performed counter-intelligence to prevent rebellions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metsuke

My ancestor, Shosai Fujita, was a doctor who performed surgery on Sakamoto Ryoma, a Confucian scholar, and an advisor to Tokugawa Nariaki. Shosai's teacher was famous Confucian scholar Koga Douan/Touan of Saga, Japan. And one of his students was Confucian, Tokutaro Nakamura, friend of poet Hirosei Gyokuso. His grave is in the Gekkyoin Buddhist temple created by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, directly below Emperor Suko's family graves in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto. The property belongs to the Fushimi No Miya Royal Imperial family today. According to the generational tale by Fujita family, and historian Akira Haruta, Shosai Fujita, first-born son of Tangaku Fujita (formerly Tangaku Kageyama), known by pen name as Ei or Hideshige, saved the life of one of Japan's most famous samurai, and revolutionary Meiji hero, Sakamoto Ryoma. My Ancestor Yozaemon Masafusa Kageyama and Toyotomi Hideyoshi

I climbed 500 steps, and paid my respect to the great #ToyotomiHideyoshi in #Kyoto #Japan. A cruel killer to some, an amazing leader who rose from poverty to unite a nation to others, he gave my ancestors a name nevertheless. His tomb lays on the top of a hilltop, called Toyokuni Shrine, built by the #Hachisuka family, the latter who my ancestors, Yozaemon and Bunzaemon Kageyama, served. #MasakatsuHachisuka was the teacher and close advisor of the younger, Hideyoshi, and also the founder of Tokushima, Japan.   Masakatsu Hachisuka gave one of my ancestors the title of the "Shikata 7" for their valor and courage, during the Siege of Miki Castle.
